VENDING MACHINES

The eye-catching decorated vending machines are the pearls of Holy

Holy’s beginning in 2002 went hand in hand with ecological responsible candy from the world’s very first Internet-candy machine. In an attempt to give public space a tasteful spin, media artist Merel Mirage formulated a unique project. She developed the first ‘Do it Yourself’ animation software for the Internet. The user generated animation clips are presented in a spiral on vending machines with built-in screens.

At this moment the vending machines can be seen at different locations all over the world. They are a gift for the empty space in public places.

  • The vending machines are not restricted to selling candy. They can be used to vend anything – for instance CD’s, DVD’s, electronics or snacks.
  • Each Holy-clip can be watched on any of our vending machines. This way you share your creativity with a large audience.

Keen choices

The vending machines aim to fill the gap in need for esthetics, social interaction and self development. People are often disapproving towards the possibility the Internet, globalization and mass consumption offer. However, we believe it is about the manner in which one deals with these matters. The Internet candy-machine is an apt example of keen choices. The machines are not only useful and tasteful. They demonstrate how the Internet can give a meaningful human character to public space, how it brings people together and offers the world a startling view.

Birth in Het Veem

It all began in the studios of Het Veem in Amsterdam. Day and night we worked to construct the world’s very first Internet candy-machine. It’s playful and globular design stand for spirals. They articulate the labyrinth of clips through which one can browse. The clips are produced at your own home or via a workshop. They are instantly presented on all Holy vending machines in the whole world. This way the machines are not merely a spot where one stops to buy food, but where one shares ones opinion and meets new people.

A place for the Internet

The machines are sold, rented out and exhibited. Currently there is a large network of Holy vending machines, from the central library in The Hague to the Dutch Embassy in Berlin. There are still machines available for anyone who is interested. Holy offers them with ecological responsible candy, but this is not compulsory. The machines can also be used to sell for instance CD’s or DVD’s. So be part of our network and give the placeless space of the Internet a setting.
